Taxes can be categorized by the impact they have on the allocation of income and wealth. A proportional tax is a kind that puts the same relative liability on all taxpayers—i.e., when tax liability and income grow in relative proportion. A progressive tax is recognised by a greater than proportional growth in the tax onus in regard to the rise in income, and a regressive tax is characterizable by a less than proportional increase in the comparable onus. Hence, progressive taxes are viewed as removing a lack of equality in income distribution, while regressive taxes may have the result of an increase in these inequalities.

The taxes that are often believed to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are nominally progressive, however, could become less so within the upper-income group—especially if a taxpayer is allowed to reduce his tax base by declaring deductions or by excluding some particular income components from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates that are applied to lower-income demographics would also be more progressive if such personal exemptions are made.

Income measured over the period of a given year may not definitely come up with the most suitable measure of taxpaying status. For example, transitory growth in income can be saved, and in temporary declines in income a taxpayer may choose to finance consumption by taking from savings. So, if taxation is made comparable along with “permanent income,” it should be less regressive (or more progressive) than when it is held in comparison with annual income.

Sales taxes and excises (with the exception of luxuries) are generally regressive, because the portion of own income consumed or spent on specific goods lowers as the level of personal income grows. Poll taxes (also known as head taxes), levied as a flat amount per capita, patently are regressive.

It is complicated to dictate corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, principally due to the lack of certainty surrounding the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of deciding who bears the tax burden depends fundamentally on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being decided.

In considering the economic effects of taxation, it is necessary to distinguish between varied ideas of tax rates. The statutory rates will be specified in legislature; generally speaking these are marginal rates, but in some cases they are median rates. Marginal income tax rates indicate the fraction of incremental income demanded by taxation when income is increased by one dollar. Hence, if tax onus grows by 45 cents when income increases by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax statutes generally contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that grow as income rises. Structured analysis of marginal tax rates are required to take into account provisions in addition to the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) declines by 20 cents for each one-dollar growth in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points greater than indicated within the statutory rates. Since marginal rates indicate how after-tax income changes in response to changes in before-tax income, they are the necessary ones for appraising incentive effects of taxation. It is even more complicated to understand the marginal effective tax rate applicable to income from business and capital, because it may be dependant on considerations such as the structure of depreciation allowances, the deductibility of interest, and the provisions for inflation adjustment. A basic economic theorem determines that the marginal effective tax rate in income from capital is nothing under a consumption-based tax.

Average income tax rates indicate the part of total income that is paid in taxation. The pattern of average rates is the one that is relevant for appraising the distributional equity of taxation. Under a progressive income tax the average income tax rate grows with income. Average income tax rates commonly rise with income, both because personal allowances are granted for the taxpayer and dependents and due to that marginal tax rates are graduated; conversely, preferential treatment of income received for the most part by high-income households can dampen these effects, producing regressivity, as indicated by average tax rates that lessen as income grows.

The LCDs used for projection systems are generally small reflective or transmissive panels set off by a strong arc lamp source. A line of lenses enlarges the reflected or transmitted image and then displays it on a screen. With front-projection systems the LCD is located on the same area of the screen as the viewer, however in rear-projection systems the screen is set off from behind. Projectors of higher expense and capacity may have three discrete LCD panels, forming separate red, green, and blue images that blend to make a coloured image on the screen.

The increasing demand for video presentations has had a particular emphasis on the switching speed of liquid crystals. This has demanded the creation of objects build with smectic liquid crystals, particular kinds of which have a quicker electro-optical response than nematic liquid crystals. The surface-stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (SSFLC) display is currently the most sophisticated smectic device. With it the liquid crystal molecules are set out in layers that are perpendicular to the substrate planes, which are distanced by one or two micrometres, and within the layers the molecules are tilted, as displayed in the figure. The host liquid crystal possesses optically active molecules, and a subtle outcome of the optical activity and the tilt of the molecules is the appearance of a permanent charge separation, or ferroelectric dipole, similar to the ferromagnetic dipole of a magnet. The direction of this dipole is perpendicular to the tilt direction of the molecules and through the plane of the layers. So, there exists a permanent charge separation over the liquid crystal layer in the SSFLC, and its sign is directly coupled to the tilt direction of the molecules. An applied voltage of the corresponding sign can reverse the direction of this dipole in tens of microseconds and so reverse the tilt direction of the molecules. The respective change in optical properties can cause a change from light to dark if or when one or more polarizers are employed.

SSFLC devices have been commercialized for bigger passive-matrix displays, but their cost and complex detail has prevented them from having any great progress on the market. Small transmissive and reflective active-matrix SSFLC displays, however, display some probability for use as elements in projection systems or as viewfinders in digital cameras. Their speedy reacting allows them to be used in time-sequential colour systems, in which highly expensive colour filters are taken out for a coloured backlight that flashes red, green, and blue in fast succession (about 100 cycles in a second). For example, the liquid crystal may be switched to a transmissive state in the red and green periods but then to a nontransmissive state in the blue period, with the result that the eye sees an average of red and green light, or the colour yellow.

From each of the furniture pieces, the chair may be of the most importance. While the majority of other objects (save for the bed) are designed to support objects, the chair supports the human form. The term chair should be used here in the most general sense, from stool to throne to further makes including the bench and sofa, which may be regarded as extended or connected chairs, and whose character (i.e., whether they are intended for sitting or reclining) is not obviously defined.

The social history of the chair is as stimulating as its history as a creative craft. The chair is not only a physical support and aesthetic piece of art; it is also an indicator of social hierarchy. Within the old royal courts there were social differences between being seated on a chair with arms, or a chair with a back but no arms, and having to squat on a stool. In the past century, the director’s or manager’s chair has been a symbol of superior rank, like in democratic parliaments the speaker sits on a higher level.

In a furniture construction, the chair can be utilised for a number of various purposes. There are chairs structured to attend to man’s age and physical capabilities (the high chair, the wheelchair) and to denote his position in society (the executive chair, the throne). During past days there were chairs used for birthing (birth chairs); since the 20th century, there have been chairs to die in (the electric chair). We design chairs with one, two, three, or four legs, chairs with or without arms, and chairs with or without backs. We can make chairs that can be folded for easy storage, chairs on wheels, and chairs on runners.

Modern day living has designated new chairs in automobiles and aircraft. All of these chair types have changed to fit to changing human desires. Because of its significant connection with man, the chair lives to its full advantage only when used. While it does not make a difference to one’s appreciation of a cupboard or a set of drawers whether there might be items inside or not, a chair is best seen and clearly evaluated by a person using it, because chair and sitter require each other. Thus the different elements of a chair are named corresponding to the parts of a human parts: arms, legs, feet, back, and seat.

Because the elementary purpose of your chair is to support the body, its worth is evaluated principally on how fully it fulfills this practical job. In the creation of the chair, the chair maker is restricted by particular static regulations and principal measurements. Inside these regulations, however, the chair builder has great freedom.

The history of the chair lasts over a period of several thousand years. There existed civilizations that had significant chair forms, as seen of the foremost task in the areas of craft and aesthetics. In such cultures, special note must be made of ancient Egypt and Greece; China; Spain and The Netherlands in the 17th century; England in the 18th century; and France in the 18th century during the ascendancy of Louis XV and Louis XVI.

Egypt
Two ancient Egyptian chair forms, both the result of careful design, are seen from tombs. The first one of these is a four-legged chair with a back, the other a folding stool. The typical Egyptian chair has four legs crafted not unlike those of a designated animal, a curved seat, leading to a sloping back supported over vertical stretchers. In this way a stable triangular structure was made. There was apparently no significant differentiation between the creation of Egyptian thrones and chairs for typical peasantry. The simple change was in the kind of ornamentation, in the selection of more expensive inlays. The Egyptian folding stool most likely was crafted as an easily packed seat for army soldiers. As a camp stool the stool continued til much later points. But the stool then took on the character of a ceremonial seat, its technical history as a folding stool being forgotten. This can already be observed, from as early as 1366–57 BC in two stools, crafted in ebony with ivory inlay decoration and gold mounts, from the tomb of Tutankhamen. They were in the construction of folding stools but are not able to be folded because the seats are made of wood. The simplistic manufacture of the folding stool, composed of two frames that rotate on metal bolts and have a seat of leather or fabric held between them, then came up some time later in the Bronze Age folding chairs of Scandinavia and northern Germany. The best recognised of those is the folding stool, made out of ashwood, which is now found at Guldhøj (National Museum in Copenhagen).

Greece and Rome
The significant Greek chair, the klismos, is found not as any ancient item still around but found in a wealth of pictorial evidence. The better recognised is the klismos drawn on the Hegeso Stele at the Dipylon burial ground outside Athens (c. 410 BC). This klismos is a chair with a backward-sloping, curved backboard and four curving legs, only two of these legs are shown. These unique legs were presumed to be executed with bent wood and were in that case bore a large amount of pressure under the weight of the sitter. The joints securing the legs to the frame of the seat were therefore super stable and were clearly signified.

The Romans emulated the Greek chair; designs of models of seated Romans offer chairs of a more heavyset and in appearance somewhat less delicately crafted klismos. Both features, the light and heavy, were brought back during the Classicist epoch. The klismos influence is known in French Empire furniture, in English Regency, and in some particular kinds of considerable originality of Denmark and Sweden circa 1800.

China
The history of the chair in China is not able to be tracked as long as the history of the chair in Egypt and Greece. From the time of the Tang dynasty (AD 618–907) an undamaged series of images and artworks was protected, displaying the inside and outside of Chinese buildings and the furniture. Also kept of the 16th century are a collection of chairs of wood or lacquered wood, that bear an intriguing resemblance to pictures of ancient chairs.

Just as in Egypt, there was two major chair designs in China: a chair of four legs and a folding stool. This chair has been found both with and without arms though always having a square seat and straight stiles (standing side supports) to firm the back. In one style, though, the stiles are delicately curved by the arms in order to sit right with the shape of the S-shaped back splat (the central upright of its chairback). The three limbs are mortised into the yoke-like top rail. Despite that the innovation of the back splat had a foundation for English chairs within the Queen Anne period, wooden members that would merely to a restricted capability support corner joints (and furthermore were loose to top that off) are a design signatory to Chinese chairs. The four legs pass through the seat frame, which ends around the rounded staves. Members are round in section or have rounded edges—acknowledging as may be to the bamboo tradition. The seat is not pleasant and may have a plaited bottom. These chairs required the sitter to be stiff and upright; for when too much pressure is exerted on the back, the chair has a way of falling over. In patriarchal Chinese households of this epoch armchairs presumably were reserved only for elderly persons in the family, for they were given great respect.

The Chinese folding stool is presumed to have taken to China from the West. It does not vary so very much from the Egyptian or Scandinavian folding stools, but it has a dissimilarity in that the top rail is prettily affixed to the two legs of the stool in a curved member, which is generally designed with metal mounts. From a Western viewpoint the ultimate effect of these furniture forms is stylized. The manufacture and decoration aspects are combined in a style that is all at once both naïve and refined. The piecemeal appearance is a result of the way that the individual parts do not appear to have been put together by means of either glue or screws, but have been mortised onto one another and held in its place in the manner of a Chinese puzzle.

Spain: 17th century
The Golden Age of Spain in the 17th century also left its signature on the chair. Paintings show a design of chair with a relatively unrefined wooden frame; a back and seat, nailed on, consisting of two layers of leather, with horsehair stuffing between, stitched to produce a pattern of small pads. The front board and a similar board from the back could be folded after loosening some small iron hooks. Thus the chair was a readily portable piece of furniture in traveling which, during the same era, had the status of a four-legged, high-backed armchair.

The Netherlands: 17th century
A low, square, upholstered style of chair can be found in engravings of the interior of affluent Dutch homes by Abraham Bosse, a French artist, and also in paintings by the Dutch artists Johannes Vermeer and Gerard Terborch. Although this style of chair might also be made in countries where Dutch styles of interior decoration and Dutch furniture won critical acclaim, it is not decided that the form actually was born in The Netherlands. Typically, the legs of the chair are smooth, round in section, and of slender measurements; they are occasionally baluster-shaped (vase-shaped) or twisted. It is unquestionably a bourgeois piece of furniture and was produced in considerable amounts, as indicated from one of Abraham Bosse’s engravings, in which an entire row of this kind of chairs lined up against a wall. The form asserts itself by its harmonious proportions and fine upholstery in gilt leather or fabric framed with fringes.

France and England: 17th and 18th centuries
The French Rococo chair in its most mature form—that was, to say, as created in Paris around 1750—spread over most of Europe and has been imitated or copied in the mid-20th century. The design owes such popularity to a combination of relaxation and delicacy. The seat conforms to the human body and grants a relaxed seated position. The back is bow-shaped, the legs curved. Typically the seat and back are upholstered, and there are little upholstered pads on the armrests. Smooth transitions are made between seat frame, legs, and back conceal all the joints, which are constructed strongly on craftsmanlike principles despite the absence of stretchers between the legs.

French Rococo chairs and imitations of them have wood of rather thick dimensions; but all the members are deeply molded, all extraneous wood has been sanded away, and finer designs may be further embellished with very delicate and decorative woodwork. The wood might be varnished, stained, painted, or gilded. Silk damask or tapestry is generally used for all upholstery on the seat, back, and armrests; cane is sometimes used instead of upholstery.

English chairs in the 18th century were more open in form than the French. The French taste for stylistic uniformity, which disseminated from the highest circles in Paris and Versailles within most of France and was popular in several parts of the Continent, had no parallel in England. Prior to 1740, the most commonly used wood was walnut; thereafter, and for the rest of the century, it was mahogany. Walnut, though beautiful in hue, was soft and therefore less suited to wood carving than to rounded, curving forms. Outer surfaces, such as the back and seat frame, were usually veneered. During the walnut period, highly overstuffed armchairs, covered with leather or embroidered material, were also developed. The best upholstery of this period is precisely and firmly modelled and accentuated by braiding or tacks. When imports of mahogany became common, no specifically new chair designs appeared, but the character of the woodwork changed. Mahogany, having a firmer, closer grain, could be cut thinner, which meant that individual parts of the chair could be more slender in shape. Mahogany also lent itself better to carving than walnut. Carving was concentrated more on the arms and back than on the legs, which as a rule were straight and smooth with chamfered (bevelled) edges and molding. There was a wealth of variety in chairback designs, featuring elegant, pierced, vase-shaped splats or two upright posts connected by horizontal slats (ladderback).

Alongside the French Rococo chair and the best English chairs in walnut and mahogany, the stick-back chair was relatively unaffected by the stylistic changes of the day. Originally a medieval form, known, for example, from paintings by Pieter Bruegel the Elder and still found in mid-20th century in the churches and inns of southern Europe, the stick-back chair (in all of its variations) consists basically of a solid, saddle-shaped seat into which the legs, back staves, and possibly the armrests are directly mortised. This typically peasant form underwent a renewal and a process of refinement in England and America during the 18th century. Under the name Windsor chair (a term that seems to have been used for the first time in 1731) or Philadelphia chair, it became commonly known and was widely distributed throughout the world.

Late 18th to 20th century
In the Neoclassical period, no basic changes took place in chair forms, but legs became straight and dimensions lighter. Backs in the shape of classical vases replaced the fanciful outlines of the Rococo period. Around 1800, freely executed imitations of Greek and Roman chairs of the klismos type, with curved legs and backrest, appeared. French chairs of the Empire period, executed in dark mahogany and embellished with ornate bronze mounts, created a ponderous effect.

In cheaper styles of inferior workmanship, bourgeois chairs of the 19th century carried on the traditions of the 17th and 18th centuries. The only real innovations were the bentwood (wood that has been bent and shaped) chairs in beech that became popular all over the world and were still made in the 20th century. Around 1900 the continental Art Nouveau and Jugendstil styles (French and German styles characterized by organic foliate forms, sinuous lines, and non-geometric forms), and the Arts and Crafts movement in England (established by the English poet and decorator William Morris to reintroduce idealized standards of medieval craftsmanship), gave rise to original chair designs by Eugène Gaillard in France, Henry van de Velde in Belgium, Josef Hoffman in Austria, Antonio Gaudí in Spain, and Charles Rennie Mackintosh in Scotland. These new furniture styles did not exercise wide, let alone decisive, influence. The Art Nouveau chairs designed by the French architect Hector Guimard, for example, are collector’s pieces, but his name is known to a broader public only because of his fanciful entrances to the Paris Métro.

Modern
After World War I, the Bauhaus school in Germany became a creative centre for revolutionary thinking, resulting, for example, in tubular steel chairs designed by the architects Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and others. During World War II, the aircraft industry accelerated the development of laminated wood and molded plastic furniture. The dominant chair forms of this period go back to designs by Alvar Aalto, Bruno Mathsson, and Charles and Ray Eames. Rapid technical developments, in conjunction with an ever-increasing interest in human-factors engineering, or ergonomics, suggest that completely new chair forms will probably be evolved in the future.

Bookkeeping is the charting of the money values of the operation of a business. Bookkeeping grants the information from which accounts are made but is a distinct process, prior to accounting.

Predominantly, bookkeeping grants two types of information: (1) the current value, or equity, of the business and (2) changes in value—profit or loss—taking placement in the enterprise over a single time period.

Management officials, investors, and credit grantors all need to have this kind of information: management to assess the upshots of operations, to control costs, to budget for the future, and to make financial policy decisions; investors in order to analyse the outcomes of business operations and make decisions regarding buying, holding, and selling securities; and credit grantors in order to regard the financial statements of an entity in deciding whether to give a loan.

Bits and pieces of financial and numerical recordkeeping can be uncovered for almost every nation with a commercial background. Records of trading contracts were discovered in the ruins of Babylon, and accounts for both farms and estates had been created in ancient Greece and Rome. The double-entry method of bookkeeping came with the development of the entrepeneurial republics of Italy, and manuals for bookkeeping were produced during the 15th century in various Italian cities.

Within the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the Industrial Revolution permitted a significant stimulus to accounting and bookkeeping.

The rise of manufacturing, trading, shipping, and subsidiary services made accurate financial bookkeeping a necessity. The ancestry of bookkeeping, in fact, resembles the ancestry of commerce, industry, and government and, in part, helped shaping it. The worldwide market of industrial and commercial activity called for higher professional decision-making processes, which in its turn called for better sophistication in the selection, classification, and presentation of information, increasingly with the aid of computers. Taxation and government legislation became more significant and resulted in higher demand for information; business firms had to have information available to list with their income tax, payroll tax, sales tax, and other tax reports. Governmental agencies and educational and other nonprofit institutions also developed in size, and the requirement for bookkeeping for their own operations became larger.

Though bookkeeping methodology can be rather detailed, all are based on two types of books used in the bookkeeping process—journals and ledgers. A journal contains the daily transactions (sales, purchases, and so on), and the ledger contains the details of individual accounts. The daily records from the journals are put in the ledgers.

Every month, as a general rule, an income statement and a balance sheet are constructed from the trial balance posted from the ledger. The purpose of the income statement or profit-and-loss statement is to present an analysis of the changes that happen in the business equity due to the transactions of the period. The balance sheet provides the financial situation of the company at the particular point in time taken from assets, liabilities, and the ownership equity.

The invention of jet propulsion was ideal for fighter aircraft. Although at first it reduced range and endurance and often increased the take-off run. The German Messerschmitt Me 262 and the British Gloster Meteor twin jets saw action in 1944, together with the tailless Me 163 rocket interceptor which sacrificed range and endurance for astounding climb and speed in defending local areas against heavy bombers.

Germany was far in front of other countries in another factor too: armament. A range of 30 mm (1 inch) cannon, radically new high-speed cannon with multiple-revolver chambers, very large recoilless guns, spin-stabilised air-to-air rockets fired in salvoes, and wire-guided air-to-air missiles were all under test before the Luftwaffe s defeat. They gradually inspired similar developments in other countries: one German gun, the Mauser MG 213, led to the American Pontiac M-39, the French DEFA, the Russian NR-30, the Swiss Oerlikon KCA, and the British Aden, all of which are still in use.

Many early jet fighters were fitted into more or less conventional airframes. The fighter often considered the ultimate achievement of the piston era, the long-range North American P-51 Mustang appeared both in a twinned double-fuselage form and, with few changes, as a US Navy jet.

But the US Air Force decided to wait a year until its makers could sweep back the wings and tail at 35 degrees, which German research had shown could lead to higher speed. The result was the F-86 Sabre, which in 1948 set a speed record at 1,080 km/h (671 mph) and outflew all other fighters. Later versions carried radar and rockets and reached 1,150 km/h (715 mph).

During the Korean War (1950-3) the F-86 met a previously unknown machine built in the Soviet Union, the somewhat lighter and simpler MiG-15, and although the MiG could climb higher and had heavy cannon, the Sabre’s skilled pilots and better equipment gave it the edge in combat.

North American’s next fighter was the F-100 Super Sabre, which exceeded the speed of sound in level flight. The MiG bureau built the twin jet MiG-19, which was even faster, and is still in wide use. The US Air Force ordered various all-weather interceptors with largely automatic radar and flight control systems so that, with guided missiles, they could intercept and destroy enemy aircraft without the pilot ever seeing them.

The British ordered a jet-fighter flying-boat, but discovered that this way of doing business without airfields yielded an inferior fighter. The Americans suffered similar problems with a ‘hydroski’ fighter, which could dive faster than sound, but took off and landed on retractable water skis.

Two even stranger fighters were designed around powerful turboprop engines and, standing on their tails, screwed themselves vertically into the air (they were intended to operate from the confined decks of warships or merchant vessels). Britain built high-altitude supersonic fighters with ‘mixed power’ from a turbojet and a rocket. In 1957 the British Minister of Defence suggested there would soon be no more manned fighters at all, only missiles. The Americans stuck to fighters, but made them very large and armed them with missiles, but no gun.

Today the wheel has turned full circle. In the past 10 to 20 years there has been a powerful trend to get back to the ‘eyeball-to-eyeball’ type of confrontation of the man in the Sopwith Camel. The pre-eminent Western fighter, the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom, was rebuilt with an internal gun, a rapid-fire 20 mm (0.79 in) cannon with six barrels firing up to 6,000 rds/ min, and a slatted wing to pull tighter turns in combat.

New small fighters appeared, such as the General Dynamics F-16, which, although bigger and heavier than any single-engined fighters of World War II, are nevertheless small and light by comparison with such impressive machines as the Grumman F-14 Tomcat, McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle, and MiG-25 Foxbat, The RAF’s next interceptor, the ADV (Air-Defence Version) of the Panavia Tornado, is a careful midway compromise, smaller than the three monsters just listed, but with two engines, long range, powerful radar, and extremely effective Skyflash missiles.

Modern interceptors defend vast blocks of airspace up to 160 km (100 miles) in radius, with powerful radar able to look down at the surrounding land and water and spot low-flying intruders trying to slip through the defences unnoticed. Their task is eased by the presence of special surveillance, early-warning, and AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft, with enormous radars and sophisticated command and control systems to manage all a nation’s defences in the most efficient way.

There is no better feeling than being in the cockpit during your jet fighter flight. Jet fighter flights and jet fighter joy flights are the ultimate gift giving and receiving experience that will be remembered forever.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or photorejuvenation therapy is a light based technology which treats several skin conditions in one treatment.

It works in the deeper layers of the skin where traditional skincare cannot reach, thus achieving a far superior result in a shorter time frame.

Skin concerns such as pigmentation, freckling, sun damage, capillaries, redness, acne scarring and rosacea may be treated with photorejuvenation.

Pulses of light are applied to the skin either in single zone or more commonly over the whole area to provide a uniform result.

The treatments remove most types of sun induced pigmentation like freckling, age spots and sun damage. By lessening the darker pigmentation IPL leaves the skin with a more even tone.

Vascular skin concerns including capillaries, redness, acne scarring and rosacea are also targeted by the broad wavelengths of light.

As most people will have several skin concerns, this treatment has become popular as it can address them all. The IPL photorejuvenation also stimulates the production of collagen which will plump and smooth the texture of the skin, improving fine lines, wrinkles and pitted scarring.

The most common treatment areas are face, neck, décolletage/chest area and backs of hands.

There is little or no downtime involved with photorejuvenation. Most people will experience some redness and heat in the area which subsides in several hours after treatment.

The darker areas of pigment may form tiny ‘pigment crusts’ which lift off in a few days revealing the result underneath. As the skin is not broken or damaged it is fine to wear make-up, though exfoliation via mechanical scrubs and AHA/glycolics is to be avoided for a week after the IPL treatment.

IPL Photorejuvenation treatments can be utilised as a once off treatment, however a course of treatments will promote the best results.

A progressive result can be expected with a change usually noticed within a week after a session. It is of utmost importance to wear sunscreen in between and after treatments as most of the damage on skin is caused by UV exposure and to prolong the result from the IPL photorejuvenation this is essential.

For more information about IPL Brisbane or IPL photorejuvenation Brisbane, contact Image by Laser.

Your phone has been ringing all morning. You’re trying to get a report out and people have been constantly walking in and out of your office, it’s like a railway station! You’re exhausted – and it’s only 11.00am!

Spare a thought for your receptionist. This is what most receptionists face every day.

The role of the receptionist was once as simple as answering phones and attending to personal visitors. Now the definition of a receptionist is more accurately stated as someone who answers the phone, greets people in person, does 25 things at once, and is continually interrupted.

At any one time a receptionist might be on the phone, holding two calls, tending to a personal client and calling a cab, all while putting together the minutes from yesterday’s staff meeting.

The role of the receptionist is sometimes looked upon as a lowly position, by the public, co-workers, management and receptionists themselves. The attitude is – “It’s just reception, how difficult can it be?”

A survey conducted by Reception Plus found that 63% of receptionists do not feel valued or appreciated. They feel isolated and their efforts unappreciated in many cases.

How can you ensure that anyone calling or coming in to reception will feel comfortable and likely to do business with you? The answer is motivation, encouragement and appreciation of the person at your front desk.

Your marketing and sales personnel promote the advantages of using your services. If people making contact feel they’re treated poorly or even rudely, they may choose to seek out your competitors rather than repeat a disappointing experience. I know I would.

The majority of receptionists are proactive, efficient and welcoming. They care about their clients and it is obvious; they make people feel welcome and relaxed; they’re helpful, but not condescending; in control, but not over-bearing; friendly but not unprofessional.

If your receptionist is like this, let him or her know that you appreciate their approach and contribution to the smooth running of the organisation.

It may be by simply remembering to say hello to them as you enter the office, returning their smile, using your manners, asking their opinion, even making them a coffee.

On the other hand, your receptionist may be showing signs of being a little challenged, finding it difficult to know how to respond to various people and situations, and to manage several things at once. Don’t leave them to struggle. Seek out options for training and encouragement.

Reception is very similar to customer service. The requirements are the same: a positive attitude, confidence, assertiveness, good communication, people and telephone skills, politeness, efficiency, willingness to help, ability to handle multiple tasks, and a sound knowledge of the company procedures and services. These attributes can all be learned by a willing participant.

Looking for a receptionist course? Receptionist training is one of the best investments you can make for your business. Reception Plus conducts professional receptionist seminars throughout Australia. Check their website for locations and dates.
